This book relates the stories of ordinary women from Kagiso, Mogale City, who are doing it for themselves. There are twelve women featuring in this book. These females are educated, enlightened and empowered. They are academics, scientists, entrepreneurs, boxing promoters, event organizers and senior managers, amongst others. Leaders in their own right, they are lifting the bar and showing others that it can be done. They are also self-made – and not politically connected. Interestingly, they are not just career oriented but are also involved in charity work and community development projects. In other words, they have a sense of social responsibility. They do that out of love, and not obligation. In some projects, they collaborate and work together. Clearly, they subscribe to the notion of collectivism. They use their personal power to impact the community. That’s what makes their stories compelling and interesting. This book seeks to acknowledge and recognise the successes and invaluable contributions of the unsung sheroes from Kagiso.
