Disasters from which no idol can protect you will surely come. The Midianites ravaged the Israelites’ land for seven years. Every year at harvest time these wild desert people, riding on their fast camels, invaded the land from the east and, like locusts, destroyed the crops. No one dared to oppose them when they stole the Israelites’ grain and drove out their cattle. No animal was left alive in Israel. In their distress, the Israelites finally began to call on their God, who they had ignored for years, and He mockingly responded: “Have I not always saved you from all danger in the past? Yet I was not good enough for you: you left me and decided to serve idols. Well, call on the gods you have chosen; let them come and deliver you from your oppression!”
It is as if the COVID-19 pandemic has placed us in a similar situation. Will we, in our distress, also call on our long-forgotten God?
The lessons in this booklet tell us about God’s involvement with man and about his grace in providing an outcome whenever man was in distress and returned to Him.
