As the first of a series of books compiled to provides an initial look into the backgrounds and histories of a number of select personalities that had played major roles in either or both the Union Defence Force of 1912 – 1958, and the South African Defence Force of 1958 – 1994.
Soldiers and specialists with military careers that had spanned across both eras, some even into the newer era of the South African National Defence Force after 1994, have been featured herein.
As an Initial Compendium of The Who’s Who of the UDF/SADF, Volume One, this book will provide researchers with valuable historical facts and references about some prominent (and some lesser known) role-players and personalities of the South African Statutory Forces. The book is by no means comprehensive, but will be followed up by a number of additional volumes, extending the number of personalities covered.
